Golfing around Niagara-on-the-Lake

Golfing in NOTL
Are you a keen golfer? Perhaps it is one of those hobbies you always wanted to try when you had time – when you retired. Maybe you are a beginner or a seasoned veteran of the game. Whatever your motivation, you will find many options for golfing within the Niagara-on-the-Lake area and in the Niagara Region as a whole.

So, let’s start with the oldest golf course in the whole of North America – Niagara on the Lake Golf Club – operating since 1875! For location, you cannot beat it!

Right on the edge of Lake Ontario and within the town of NOTL with a great clubhouse, restaurant, bar and lakeside patio, this nine whole course is a great place to come and spend a relaxing day whether you are a club member or a member of the public just wanting a fun time. Play a round and enjoy the views. On a clear day, you can see Toronto across the lake!

Just up the road around 10km near the village of Queenston is the Queenston Golf Club. This 9 hole course is quietly located alongside Concession 2 Road and with the beautiful Niagara Escarpment as a backdrop.

This public course opened in 1966 and is a great place to learn the game. There are pros available and you can rent golf clubs here so if you are not yet fully converted to the game, this is a great place to come and put it to the test.

Just 2km up the road from here is St Davids Golf Club. Another 9 hole course within the attractive community of St Davids, this club also backs directly onto the Niagara Escarpment and was first opened in 1910. Although there is no bar or restaurant here, it is a very short walk to the Old Firehall Restaurant and to Ravine Winery with its excellent restaurant.

As you leave the village of St Davids and head up the hill towards Niagara Falls, the next course is Eagle Valley Golf Course and Golf Academy. This 18 hole course also has a driving range and is hilly compared to the previous three courses so there are some real challenges here.

There are numerous golf academy programs here and professional tuition available if you are beginning or getting back into the game.

Slightly further afield, there is a whole range of golf courses to be found. Royal Niagara Golf Club, Beechwood Golf and Country Club, Whirlpool Golf Course, Thundering Waters, Oaklands Golf Club, Legends, Grand Niagara, Niagara Falls Golf Club, Peach Trees, Oak Hall and many others.

Whether you are after a serious challenge or just a leisurely round, there is something for everyone here in Niagara.
