Involved in the Niagara On The Lake Community

Rotary Club Community Events

As a Niagara-On-The-Lake resident for many years I enjoy giving back to this wonderful neighbourhood. Have a look at this photo of me volunteering for the Rotary Club Canada Day Pancake Breakfast.

I am a proud member of the Rotary Club of Niagara on the Lake where I volunteer for a number of community service activities. Each Canada Day at our annual BBQ at Simcoe Park I make pancakes, burgers, and hotdogs to raise money to support many local charities. The barbecue is a lot of fun and a huge success with both residents and visitors to the area.

In December I volunteer as one of the hosts for our Rotary Holiday House Tour, where many of the town’s historical homes are open to the public to view over a weekend. The homes are decorated and furnished by local interior designers. I lead guests through a guided tour. It is a wonderful way to showcase the rich heritage of the area and display the talents of our local interior designers. Our historical town has a great deal to offer.

Volunteer for The Niagara Pumphouse Outdoor Art Show

Aside from my Rotary Club involvement I also enjoy supporting the fine arts community at Niagara-On-The-Lake. Every summer I volunteer at a local art gallery called the Niagara Pumphouse while they host an outdoor art show that showcases the work of Ontario artists and craftsmen.

I help set up the tents, assist with the signage and am also a representative at the information booth to answer questions. It’s a wonderful time. I definitely recommend you join us. The event also includes a silent auction and a family-friendly outdoor arts activity where children of all ages are invited to make their own clay sculpture to bring home.

Why You’ll Love Niagara On-The-Lake As Much As My Wife And I Do

Niagara-On-The-Lake is a beautiful region with a mild climate. It offers a wide variety of amenities whether you like life in the fast lane or a more serene, relaxed pace.

My family and I have spent a great deal of time exploring the region discovering new and interesting things to do each week. I love walking my dog at Fireman’s Park with its great off-leash dog park. It is the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing afternoon. It also boasts a new community centre which also has a bandstand that plays live music in the summer evenings.

Queenston Heights is another park that is a family-friendly favourite of mine. It’s very popular for picnics and barbecues. And it has fantastic views of the Niagara River looking towards Toronto.

Check out some other highlights of things to do in Niagara-on-the-Lake:

They Only Charge 5 Cents For A Ride

On one of the many sunny days in the summer my wife and I love to visit the nearby beaches to enjoy the views and the breeze. Lakeside Park Beach is a gentle, curving stretch of sand that is always popular. It has volleyball nets, family picnic areas, boaters coming in and out of the marina, and jet skis on the bay.

You may also be able to hear distant music from the Lakeside Carousel, which was originally built in 1905 in Brooklyn, New York. They only charge 5 cents for a ride.

The Town Truly Comes Alive At This Time

If you enjoy cycling or a morning jog the Niagara River Parkway offers a long walking-path that has breathtaking views of the river. My wife and I love walking along this path, especially in the summer months when all the flowers and trees are full. The town truly comes alive at this time.

Freshly Baked Scones With Cream And Strawberry Jam

You can pass large homes, wineries and fruit stands along the wall from Queenston Village all the way to Niagara-On-The-Lake. Make sure to stop by McFarland House, a heritage building with over 200 years of history. It features a tearoom and cafe offering freshly baked scones with cream and strawberry jam. Costumed interpreters also provide guided tours of the area throughout the day, and host special events throughout the holiday season.

The Oldest Golf Club In North America

For avid golfers Niagara on the Lake Golf Club boasts the oldest golf club in North America. It’s been in operation since 1875. The course is located right on the edge of Lake Ontario and within the town of Niagara-On-The-Lake. It features some of the most scenic views of the area. Open to the public, it is the perfect place to visit for a fun game of golf or to simply relax at their clubhouse, bar and patio and enjoy the tranquility of the area. On a clear day, you can see Toronto across the lake.
